How Karplus-Strong Physical String Synthesis Works

Unlike traditional web instruments that play back pre-recorded MP3 audio files, the Learntrix Virtual Guitar computes the acoustic vibration of vibrating strings in real time using the legendary Karplus-Strong algorithm. A brief burst of white noise mimics the plectrum striking the string, which is then circulated through a filtered feedback delay line. The delay length corresponds exactly to the string pitch, while a lowpass biquad filter introduces natural acoustic frequency damping — capturing the exact wooden warmth, metallic bite, and sustain of acoustic dreadnought and nylon classical guitars.
